Hemkunt Sahib (also spelled Hemkund Sahib) is a revered Sikh pilgrimage site located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, nestled in the Himalayas at an altitude of around 4,633 meters (15,200 feet). It is one of the highest Gurudwaras (Sikh temples) in the world and holds deep spiritual significance for Sikhs.
Hemkunt Sahib is mentioned in the autobiography of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the 10th Sikh Guru, called Bachitra Natak. According to the text, it is the place where Guru Gobind Singh Ji meditated in his previous life.
The name Hemkunt means “Lake of Snow.”
It is believed to be a tapasthan (meditation place) of the Guru.
